Meghalaya govt raises price limit of VIP vehicles

SHILLONG:  Meghalaya Government on Wednesday decided to enhance the price limit of the vehicles to be allotted to VIPs and  officials of the Government.

Speaking to media persons after the Cabinet meeting here ,  Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong defended the move of the decision saying that earlier there was no price limit for vehicles of the Governor and the Chief Minister but now the Government has put up a ceiling upto Rs 40 lakh for the   vehicle of the Governor and the Chief Minister

He also said that the price limit for vehicles of Deputy Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, Chief Secretary is now upto Rs  20 lakh   which was Rs 15 lakhs earlier.

Similarly, price limit for vehicles of  Additional Chief Secretary,   DGP, principal Secretary is now upto Rs  12  lakh   which was Rs  10 lakhs earlier.

The price limit on the vehicles of   for Secretary,  Deputy Commissioner, IGP is now upto Rs  9 lakhs lakhs , Rs  7.5  lakh for Heads of the department  and Rs 7 lakhs for the District level officers

Tynsong said that the  old price limits were totally irrelevant since the prices of the vehicles have gone up now.

When asked if the decision was a matter of  prestige or comfort, he said that the decision was a matter of necessity.

He said that the Government revised the price limits of the vehicle in every  3-4  years and if the Government did not fix a maximum rate for vehicles, then even a DC or SP may buy vehicles worth Rs  20-30 lakhs

He also said the Government is sending a good message to the people of the state with the decision since all these years, there was no price limit on the vehicles of the Governor and Chief Minister and they could have bought vehicles even upto Rs  2-3 crores.
