Headman held in AMD arson, assault case

MAWKYRWAT: A headman has been arrested in connection with the assault of scientists of the Atomic Minerals Division at Wahkaji and torching of vehicles.
Victor Nongphlang, who is the Sordar Shnong (headman) of Langpa village, was arrested on Tuesday more than three weeks after the arson and violence, sources said.
The sources informed that Nongphlang was among the drivers who ferried the persons suspected to be involved in burning the AMD vehicles and a drilling machine at Mawthabah village.
On July 25, a group of about 40-50 anti-uranium protesters ransacked the AMD office at Wahkaji and assaulted two scientists, Satyander Saurav (29) and Srinjoy Mukherjee (31) and one assistant, Sauman Das (31) and also burnt down a truck cum drilling machine and a Bolero pick-up at Mawthabah village.
