SHILLONG: On his maiden visit to Shillong, Indian marathon runner Nitendra Singh Rawat from Uttaranchal has arrived to take part in the Shillong Run -10 km on Saturday at Parking Lot, Polo.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Rawat said, “It is my first time in Shillong and the rain welcomed me. I am excited about the Shillong run.”
Stating that he mostly concentrates on running in plain areas, he said running up and down hilly terrains would be a tough task for him.
The Shillong Run is the eighth edition which over the years has helped spread awareness about the disabilities and also to highlight the learning spirit of children.
The Social and Economic Life Development Department, KJP Synod Sepngi through the Agency for Sustainable Development Initiatives in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare, Shillong will organise Shillong Run under the “Run with different abilities”.
Asked, Rawat said, “The participation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) serves as a motivation for all of us.”
The run is also to raise fund for the projects of the Synod established for the welfare of the PWDs such as Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive School in Sanshnong, Mairang, Community Based Rehabilitation Programme in Mairang and Rev Amirkha School for Disabled, Mawlai.
