SHILLONG: The partners in  the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA)  which met here on Thursday   discussed at length  about the upcoming South Tura by-elections   where Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma is contesting as the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate.

The details of the meeting were not shared with the media persons and as the leaders were tightlipped on the discussions   which took place in the meeting.

Later, Urban Affairs Minister and PDF MLA, Hamlet Dohling said that they would support Conrad Sangma in the South Tura by election but the party would support its own candidate, P N Syiem in Ranikor by-elections.

On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister, and senior NPP leader, Prestone Tynsong said, “This is the real democracy in Meghalaya which is lovely.”

He also said that all the coalition partners are supporting Conrad  Sangma in the by poll because he is the Chief Minister and secondly all of them want the MDA Government to last its full tenure of five years and may be more.

It may be mentioned that most of the alliance partners in the MDA Government are pitching against each other in the Ranikor by-poll but all the political parties have put their weight behind the NPP candidate, Conrad Sangma in the South Tura by poll.

Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma must win the South Tura by poll to continue as the Chief Minister of the state.
