Polythene, thermocol banned in WGH from Aug 15

TURA: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh has issued an order prohibiting the use of polythene with a thickness of less than 50 microns, including plastic cups, plates, thermocol etc from August 15.

The order, which comes under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code and rule 12(4) of the Plastic Waste Management rules, 2016 will come into effect in the entire West Garo Hills District.

It was also warned that any person violating the provisions of the mentioned rules shall be penalized under Section 15 of the Environment Protection Act (EPA), 1986 (imprisonment with term up to 5 years with fine which may extend to Rs 1 lakh or with both, and in case of failure to comply, with additional fine, which may extend to Rs 5,000/- everyday).
