DC urges members to sensitized people on campaign

TURA: Prior to the launch of the Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign (MRVC) in September next, various preparatory measures are being taken up by the District Task Force Members of which formation of the District Core Group is one of the important objectives of the vaccination campaign.

It may be mentioned that the District Core Group on MVRC have been formed with its members comprising of District School Education Officer, West Garo Hills Tura, District Programme Officer, ICDS, Tura, Medical Superintendent, Paediatrician from Tura Christian Hospital, District Maternity and Child Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, Sub-Divisional School Education Officer, Tura and Dadenggre for successful implementation of the vaccination programme in the district.

During the meeting held at DRDA Conference Hall in Tura yesterday, the District MCH Officer, Dr. Ivory A Sangma briefed the aims and objectives of the vaccination campaign to the Core Group Members. She also informed that since the targeted children are from the age group of 9 months to less than 15 years of age, Paediatricians are the best persons to motivate the children as well as their parents for they are in close touch with them.

Dr. Sangma also sought the support and cooperation from the Core Group Members especially paediatricians before, during and after MRVC campaign. She then informed that other preparatory measures and awareness campaign will be undertaken shortly in Schools, Anganwadi Centres, District Maternity and Child Hospital, Tura Christian Hospital and Holycross Hospital, Tura for effective implementation of the MRVC campaign.

Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh who is also the Chairman of District Health Society suggested that the children should be sensitized about the vaccination campaign and ensure that all children in the district are vaccinated. He also urged the members to make an effort to remove misconceptions among the people with regard to vaccination and also to spread awareness through extensive media campaign.

District Medical and Health Officer, West Garo Hills, Dr M Sangma, District MCH Officer, Dr. I A Sangma, Senior Medical Officer, Dr. I M Sangma, District School Education Officer, West Garo Hills, Sub-Divisional School Education Officer, Paediatricians were among others present at the meeting.
