SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC)-Shillong City urged the Deputy Commissioner Labour Department and the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to refrain from issuing and renewing any Labour license to any contractors and businessmen.

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner Labour Department and executive member in charge of Labour, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), the HYC alleged that contractors and businessmen engaged the services of inter-state migrants for cheap labour.

The organisation took strong exception to the contractors and businessmen by saying that the inter-state migrant workers are prized catches.

They asserted that work permit might be a big prize that such immigrants and contractors might be willing to procure at all cost

“It will put Meghalaya at risk in terms of security with high probability of indigenous people losing their daily bread in the process,” the organisation members said.
