GUWAHATI:  Assam police have geared up security in the run-up to Independence Day   in coordination with state police forces of Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland to prevent inter-state movements of militants having intention to carry out hit and run strikes in Assam.

State’s Director General of Police (DGP), Kuladhar Saikia has got in touch with his counterparts in the neighbouring states to fine tune the coordination with the police forces of the neighbouring states. Superintendent of Police in all the districts of the state have been put on maximum alert to prevent any untoward incident in the run up to the Independence Day.

Three security rings have been set up in and around Khanapara Playground in Guwahati city where the Central celebration of Independence Day would be organized. There will be a security ring inside the venue, one outside the venue and the third one on the hills surrounding the venue.

Meanwhile, the DGP of Assam Police Saikia on Saturday stated that the state police were not much worried about reported upsurge in activities of Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) as Assam police have already been maintaining vigil against the JMB activities, if any, in the state.

It may be mentioned that the banned United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) and its ally Coordination Committee (Core Com), a banner organisation of militant groups of Manipur have called for a boycott and general strike on Independence Day in the region.
