SHILLONG: The executive committee of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will meet on Tuesday instead of Monday to decide whether the KHAD (Khasi Social Custom of Lineage) (First and Second Amendment) Bills should be recalled.
When contacted, chief executive member HS Shylla said attempts will be made to improve the bill. “With the heightened demand to make the bill non-discriminatory, there will be no gender bias,” he said.
Shylla is travelling to different areas to create public awareness on the bill and so far he has visited Sohra and Pynrusla. He will go to Nongstoin soon.
“The people in the villages give their positive response to the bill. They are all out for it. But they are also of the view to bar not just Khasi women but Khasi men as well,” he said.
