GUWAHATI: Meghalaya police have initiated investigation into the mysterious death of a 20-year-old woman who was found in a drain in the 10th Mile area near the inter-state border on Monday.

“The deceased was a resident of the Amerigog area on the Assam side. She had gone along with her friend to visit the Regional Science Centre in Khanapara here on Sunday and was missing since she got down in the Nine Mile area on her way back to her residence that day. A missing report was filed thereafter by her family at the Jorabat police outpost. On Tuesday, her father lodged an FIR at our police station,” Jessica Sangma, officer-in-charge of Khanapara (Meghalaya) police station, told The Shillong Times on Tuesday evening.

A post mortem was conducted but police are yet to receive the report.

“We are recording statements from those who have last seen her, including her friend. As of now we cannot ascertain her cause of her death as we are yet to get the post-mortem report,” Sangma said.
