Freedom Run for unity, national integrity flagged off in Tura

TURA: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh on Tuesday morning flagged off the Independence Day Freedom Run for Unity and Integrity at Chandmary Playground in Tura in the run up to the Independence Day celebrations. The Freedom Run which was organised by the District Sports Office in collaboration with the District Administration concluded at the Dikki Bandi Stadium at Dakopgre in Tura.

 

In his brief address after the Run, Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills Ram Singh congratulated all the runners who participated and said that it did not matter whether one wins or loses but what mattered was participation. Emphasizing on various health benefits of regular exercise like walking, cycling, jogging, etc., he said that these exercises can free a person from different diseases and that being healthy is one of the vital issues in the context of health and well being of a person. Reminding that the upcoming National Games in 2022 will be hosted by the State, he requested the teachers to find out various events scheduled for the game and train the students so that they can participate as per their capacity and excellence.

 

The Freedom Run comprised of different categories and the prize for Youngest participant in Boys Category was bagged by Tengkam D Sangma, a 7-year-old from Ringrey while that of the Youngest Girl participant was bagged by Amania A Sangma, an 8-year-old from Walbakgre.

 

In Men’s category, the first prize was bagged by Batsrang A Sangma from Agillanggre, Second by Niksrang R Marak from Ampati and third by Susil Ch Sangma from Wadanang. In the Women’s Category, the first prize was bagged by Tengsilchi B Marak from Agillanggre, Second by Smile Orchid M Momin and third by Donesha M Sangma from Cherangre.

 

The Oldest Men Participant of the Freedom Run was Greden Marak (66) from Forestilla and Oldest Woman Participant was Kraidina Arengh (46) from Rongkon Songgital.

 

Earlier, cleaning drives were also conducted by different departments of the district at their respective office premises on August 13 as a run up preparation for the Independence Day celebration.
