MAWKYRWAT: The NPP is harping on its slogan for change that it had started before the Assembly elections in February even in the by-polls.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Monday dangled both improved road connectivity and C&RD carrots to woo voters for NPP candidate MM Danggo.
“The NPP under the leadership of Conrad K Sangma dreams of changing the state of Meghalaya and work should start from rural areas by improving road connectivity, health, education, drinking water and increasing agricultural products,” he told a gathering at Wahkaji in Ranikor constituency.
Tynsong informed that the Centre has promised that by October, it will sanction fund to improve about 1000-km PWD roads in the state which include roads in Ranikor, which he listed among the backward areas in Meghalaya.
“This area (Wahkaji) deserves to have a higher secondary school as well as a college so that youths do not have to travel to Nongstoin, Mawkyrwat and Shillong. Also, if we calculate the size of the area, Wahkaji deserves to get a separate C&RD Block because it is too far from Nongstoin and Ranikor C&RD Block,” he added as he sought people’s mandate for the party.
Referring to Danggo’s “sacrifice” in the form of resignation from MLA post after the new government accorded civil sub-division status ro Ranikor, KHADC chief executive member HS Shylla said “it is time for the people to pay back”.
“Once you get the civil sub-division, development will follow,” he said.
Others who spoke include Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat, former MLA of Mawkynrew Remington Pyngrope and the president of the NPP South West Khasi Hills unit Kitborlang Nongrem.
