Swachh Survekshan Grameen launched in Nongstoin

NONGSTOIN: West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner in charge KL Nongbri who is also the chairman of the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) launched the Swachh Survekshan Grameen-2018 at Nongstoin on Monday in the presence of D Shabong Executive Engineer, PHE Nongstoin Division, headmen, district coordinator, block coordinator and staff of DWSM.
Nongbri said that the programme will promote awareness among the people of Nongstoin on how to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
He also said that the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation Mission has launched the programme worldwide and will attempt to rank all the districts accordingly. He added that West Khasi Hills is the first district to launch the programme.
D Shabong, Executive Engineer of the PHE said: “The objective of SSG 2018 is to undertake a ranking of all districts on the basis of their performance attained on key quantitative and qualitative SBM-G parameters”.
He informed the gathering that in order to be eligible for an award which would be presented by the Government of India in October; citizens of Nongstoin should be responsible in keeping their surroundings clean.
He also said that the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation Mission will send forth a survey team from Kantar Group of Delhi to survey the villages.
