GUWAHATI: Union Minister of State (MoS) fpr Railways  Rajen Gohain has been accused of rape by two sisters from his home district Nagaon in central Assam. It happens to be second such allegation brought against the senior BJP leader of the state in a fortnight.

The two sisters have lodged an FIR against Gohain at Nagaon police station, alleging that the Union minister had sexually assaulted them when they had approached him for recommendation for a job.

The two sisters alleged that the incident happened 6-7 months ago when they met Gohain, who demanded sexual favour in lieu of his help.  When the women did not relent, he raped them, the sisters have alleged in the FIR.

Earlier this month another woman from Nagaon  had filed an FIR alleging that Gohain had raped her and threatened her family with dire consequences if she approached the police.  The woman later withdrew the FIR after police had registered a case. She made a written submission that due to some misunderstanding she had filed the FIR against the Union Minister. The minister’s son Nabarun Gohain also filed a counter FIR against the woman accusing her for blackmailing the Union Minister.

Gohain had, however, denied the earlier allegation, terming it a political conspiracy.

Meanwhile, national president of Mahila Congress and an MP from Assam Sushmita Dev on Tuesday led a protest against Gohain in Guwahati demanding his arrest.  The effigy of the Union minister was burnt by Congress protestors.
