SHILLONG: The battle for the prestigious South Tura constituency is intensifying and Congress which is locking horns with the Chief Minister and NPP candidate, Conrad Sangma, believes that the party would win the South Tura by-poll.
Talking to The Shillong Times over the phone on Sunday, Congress’ senior leader and spokesperson, Zenith Sangman said, everyone thinks that it would be tough to be defeat the Chief Minister but the reality would be something else and the outcome would be seen on August 27.
Sangma also claimed that people of the constituency as a mark of protest against all the wrong doings of the present Chief Minister would vote against him in the election scheduled to be held on August 23.
He also said that the party had prepared and whatever was required from the perspective of preparations is being done by the party.
It may be mentioned that the Congress have fielded Charlotte W Momin against Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma who has to win the election anyhow in order to remain as the Chief Minister of the state.
Similarly, former MLA John Leslee K Sangma is also contesting the election as an independent besides another independent candidate Chris Kabul A. Sangma is also trying his luck from the constituency.
The by-election to South Tura is necessitated after former MLA of the constituency, Agatha Sangma resigned from her post to pave the way for her brother, Conrad Sangma to contest the elections.
