SHILLONG: The government is dilly-dallying on rectifying the anomalies in the construction of the new tuberculosis hospital at Umsawli that is further delaying the medical college project at Jhalupara.
Sources in the Health Department said that some revised estimates are required to be made to make the new TB Hospital more compliant with the necessary rules.
Patients at Reid Provincial Chest Hospital in Jhalupara cannot be shifted to the new building till the rectifications are done.
The new hospital at Umsawli is almost complete but it is not as per the specifications required for a centre treating tuberculosis.
The sources said the government need fund to redesign the new structure. “It will take some time as there are many issues and these have to be sorted out at the highest level and only then we can think of shifting the patients to the new hospital,” the officials added.
Earlier, Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek had blamed lack of communication between three wings of the Health Department for the wrong construction.
The new tuberculosis hospital was supposed to be a 200-bed facility but provision for only 80 beds has been made.
Last year, former chief minister Mukul Sangma laid the foundation for Shillong Medical College and Hospital, which will be built on a PPP mode.
