SHILLONG: The name of Fantin Joseph Lakadong, a member of the Congress District Committee, has been proposed for candidature from Laitumkhrah constituency for the 2019 council polls.
Lakadong, an alumnus of St Edmund’s College, is the husband of local MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh.
Lyngdoh said on Monday the block Congress recommended Lakadong’s name after Neil Antonio War resigned from the party.
Lakadong’s name has to be approved by the state high command.
“He (Lakadong) will have to work hard and we are already working hard and it seems he is acceptable to the people of the constituency,” the MLA said, adding that the Congress has to retain its district council seat. To a query, Lyngdoh replied that it would be difficult for her to fulfil the duties of an MLA and an MDC and expressed confidence that when people of the constituency can have faith in her, “they will definitely have confidence on someone from her family”.
Lakadong is a businessman by profession.
