Couple assaulted in moral policing case

TURA: In a case of moral policing, one tribal woman and her non-tribal lover were trashed by a group of angry villagers in the remote Tikrikilla region of West Garo Hills on Sunday evening.
The couple, who were apparently in a relationship, was targeted by the villagers who had objected to their liaisons. They reportedly caught the couple on Sunday night and gave them a severe beating before leaving them with a warning.
The assault was also uploaded on social media by one of the perpetrators and was soon notified to authorities by some viewers. However, the injured couple has refused to file a formal police complaint in fear of further reprisals. The police however, have registered a suo moto case to track down the perpetrators.
