Former PM Vajpayee’s ashes reach Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The urn containing the ashes of former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee reached Assam’s capital city  from New Delhi on Wednesday  for immersion in the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal received the urn from State BJP President, Ranjeet Dass around 2:45 PM at LGBI Airport here.  Several ministers of the State Government, MP, MLAs, Chief Minister’s Media Advisor and Legal Advisor as well as chairmen and deputy chairmen of various boards and corporations were also present at the time of receiving the urn.

The urn was then carried to the state BJP headquarter at Hengrabari in a long procession. Large numbers of people paid their obeisance to the great leader at Gauhati University, Maligaon, Fancy Bazar and Ulubari.

Noteworthy that the procession for immersion of the ashes will start tomorrow from BJP office around 1:00 PM. The procession will pass through Chandmari, Silpukhuri, Latasil, Fancy Bazar and end at Lachit Park before  the ashes are immersed in Brahmaputra river.
