SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government will lift the ban on importing fish from Wednesday after almost a month.
Food Safety Commissioner PW Ingty said on Tuesday that the government has decided not to extend the ban on fish imported from outside the state.
However, he made it clear that there would be constant checking of fish to ensure that no fish laced with formalin enters Meghalaya.
Last month, the government imposed a 15-day ban on import and sale of fish after samples tested positive for the carcinogenic substance formalin. The ban was later extended for another 15 days.
Earlier, the fish association had urged the state government to lift the ban.
