Sunn concerned over delay in water supply scheme

SHILLONG: Water shortage in Mawphlang area has irked the local MLA SK Sunn and the residents.
The MLA expressed concern over the delay in the implementation of Mawphlang-Mawngap-Marbisu Combined Water Supply Scheme which resulted in undue sufferings to the people.
The MLA added that it was in March 2017 that the scheme got administrative approval. It has been sanctioned at a total cost of more than Rs 30 crore.
“The scheme only needs implementation and I urge the Chief Minister to intervene,” he said. Some of the villages getting benefits from the scheme are Mawkohmon, Nongrum, Dongiew, Mission and Lad Um Risain. At Mawngap it will benefit villages such as Mawsmai, Lumparing, Maw Kharshiing, Dukan, Mawngap Rim and Khliehshnong.
The scheme will also extend upto Lait Pynter, Mawshaton, Sunn informed.On the delay in the implementation of the scheme, he said, “Probably, the government is still new but I still look forward to the implementation of the scheme.”
Farmsning water project
The non-implementation of Arpdah Farmsning water supply project even after five years, has prompted the traditional heads from Mawryngkneng to visit PHE minister, Samlin Malniang to seek his intervention.The project was supposed to be implemented from 2013.
The minister assured the leaders to follow up on the project and make attempts to start it within 2018.
The traditional heads said that water is not available at the PHC, Anganwadi center and schools, besides Mawryngkneng is home to 1800 households.
