Three of family die in fire incident

GUWAHATI: Three persons from a family including a 18-months-old  boy were killed and six others suffered serious burn injuries in a devastating fire that engulfed a multi-storey building, Achyut Plaza, at S M Road in Sualkuchi market about 35 kilometers away from here on Tuesday night.

Police informed that the fire started at a silk yarn store in the building  and spread  very fast to the entire building. Six persons belonging to the family of the building owner Lohit Kakoti who live in the third floor of the building fainted on being suffocated by the fire and smoke. Though all of them were rushed to the burn care unit in Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati, three of them – Lohit Kakoti, his daughter Kabita Mahanta and her 18-month-old son Mayukh Dev Mahanta – were declared brought dead by doctors in the hospital.

Three others –  Anupama Kakoti (wife of Lohit Kakoti), her daughter Juri Kakoti and grandson Sun Das are now undergoing treatment in the hospital.
