TURA: Independent candidate and former South Tura MLA, John Leslee K Sangma has said that win or lose this will be the last election he is contesting.

Announcing his decision soon after casting his vote at the Tura Town High School in Babupara, Sangma said that he was ready to ‘hang up his boots’ after the election. He is  an Independent candidate in the fray in the by-election to South Tura.

Speaking about his prospects in the election, Sangma said that he had tried to convince the people on many issues including the current controversy on job reservation policy, youth alcoholism etc., but  it was up to the people who they elect.

“I have tried to caution the people about what is happening and what it may lead to. But in the end, the decision lies with the people. Let’s see what happens,” he said.

The results to the by-poll will be declared on August 27. The former MLA is pitted against Chief Minister Conrad Sangma of the NPP, Congress’ Charlotte W Momin and independent candidate, Chris Kabul A Sangma.
