Dorbar holds election for JHADC candidates

JOWAI: Dorbars from various localities in Jaintia Hills have started conducting election to select candidates for contesting the forthcoming District Council election. On Saturday, the Dorbar Shnong of Tuberkmai held an election in the village to select a candidate for contesting the election.
There were three candidates including Wanthmu Phawa, who was defeated in 2014, social activists Commander Sana and Skon Dkhar.
Phawa was elected as the common candidate by securing maximum votes. Phawa will contest from Tuber constituency which was represented for more than five terms by prominent politician Obil Kyndait, the former CEM, Chairman of the JHADC.
The present MDC is Lasky Rymbai who is likely to contest from UDP ticket.
Helping Phawa from Mutong village, who is also a former MDC of the area will also contest against Wanthmu Phawa.
Earlier, the Dorbar Shnong of Mihmyntdu village in West Jaintia Hills elected Brightstar Chyrmang, the working president of Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF) to be a candidate for the election.
Chyrmang defeated three other opponents during the election organised by the Mihmyntdu Dorbar Shnong.
Several village dorbars in Jaintia Hills will be holding a similar election for their respective candidates.
