SHILLONG: The central executive committee (CEC) of KHNAM held on August 24 stated that the party still supports Pyndap Saibon as the president.

On the same day, the CEC also decided that there would be no change in the candidates fielded by the party for contesting the 2019 Council elections for Jaiaw (Thomas Passah) and Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah (Rocky Hek).

In a statement issued here, general secretary, Freewelson Marpna said the party sent a letter to KHNAM MLA, Adelbert Nongrum on July 23 in which the CEC explained on the decision to field the two candidates and also urged him to reconsider his decision to step down as the working president of the party.

“We are still waiting for his withdrawal letter,” he said.

Marpna urged Nongrum to work and support the party candidates, he said, “The question of suspension or expulsion does not arise. The regional political party has only one MLA and we respect that.”
