Woman gang raped in Assam

GUWAHATI: A woman was gang raped by a group of four miscreants at Amoni area of Nagaon district on Tuesday night and a case was registered in this regard in Samaguri police station of the district, according to Nagaon district Superintendent of Police, Sankarbrata Raichoudhury.

The police official informed that the woman was travelling on a motorcycle with her male companion from Amoni to Bhalukmari in Golaghat district when they were waylaid by a gang of four miscreants travelling in a Maruti Alto car. The miscreants forcefully took the woman to a secluded placed and gang raped here. She was later recovered by the driver of an oil tanker operating on the highway and taken to nearby Jakhalabandha police station.

The SP said the woman had been subjected to  medical examination and her statement recorded. Police recovered the motorcycle in which the woman was travelling  and also claimed to have gathered clues and evidences.

The SP claimed that the woman knew some of the miscreants and would be able to identify them. Futher investigation was on.
