SHILLONG: Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) is saddened over criticism about the central executive committee of the party and the party as a whole for the past few months.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the KHNAM said that it did not release any news except the clarification sought from the MLA of North Shillong Constituency Adelbert Nongrum who is the party’s working president. The party said that there was no pressure to choose the candidates from two constituencies Jaiaw and Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah, adding “this decision was taken unanimously with every member and the members of CEC, after many meetings were held for the past few months.”To say that the party is wasting its time only in these two constituencies is baseless. There are many ticket aspirants, that is why we had to make quick decisions to give time to the candidates who were chosen to work in their constituencies, the statement said.
The party has also written to Adelbert on July 23 explaining him about the decision taken by the CEC. They also urged him to reconsider his decision to step down as the working president of the party, adding “We are still waiting for the withdrawal letter.”
The CEC meeting which was held on August 24 did not take the decision of letting the president resign but it extended support to the leadership of Pyndap Saibon. There are rules in electing a new president of the party and we have to go according to it. On the same day, the CEC has made a decision to not change the allotment of tickets to the aspiring candidates, Rocky Hek (Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah) and Thomas Passah (Jaiaw).
Regarding the statement of Adelbert that he will support Glenbert Khongwir in Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah, the party said it has nothing to say and it was seen only in newspapers and there was no written letter given to the party by the MLA . (Contd on P-10)
