SHILLONG: The HSPDP has clarified that the party is “strongly supporting” the one nation, one election move of the Centre that has been endorsed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party’s general secretary Renikton L Tongkhar said contradictory to the report published in this news daily, HSPDP “strongly supported this move though we could not raise this point during the participation in the (meeting of the) Election Commission of India due to time constraint”.
“We understand that if one election is conducted nationwide at the same time it will reduce election expenditure and the entire country will have time to focus on development for the entire five-year term. In the present election process, we have election almost every three months and the big national parties do not have time to concentrate on development, but their focus is only (on) how to win maximum seats from one state to another,” he added.
