GUWAHATI: The Kamrup metro district administration continued its eviction drive at Jorabat for the third consecutive day, dismantling 203 structures over a 5.6km stretch in the area along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Saturday.
The drive has been carried with the objective of clearing a rivulet near the national highway to maximise water flow.
It may be mentioned that the area witnesses flash floods after a downpour and encroachment coupled with clogging of drains are at the root of the problem.
The National Highways Authority of India has extended logistics support to the district administration to undertake the eviction. On Saturday itself, as many as 80 structures were dismantled by the administration.
Official sources said that the eviction will be off for the next two days and likely to resume on September 4. It is estimated that another three days will be needed to clear the flow of the rivulet up to Byrnihat.
