Five of a family with vehicle swept way in river in Assam

GUWAHATI: Five persons of a family were swept away by the strong current of Dikhou River in Sivasagar in Eastern Assam when the Swift Dezire vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the river embankment late Saturday evening.

Guwahati-based businessman Haren Bora along with his wife, two grown up daughters and his elderly mother were travelling to their ancestral home at Dikhoumukh in Sivasagar district when the vehicle he was driving along the embankment of swelling Dikhou River skidded off into the river and swept away.

All the occupants of the vehicle were feared dead as the vehicle was yet to be traced along the course of the river which is a tributary of Brahmaputra. The locals of the area were  enraged at the delay in beginning the rescue operation by the  disaster response forces personnel who were very late in arriving at the accident site.
