No PRRS or CSF death reported in Mizoram in August
Aizawl: A senior official of Mizoram government’s Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department said Tuesday that no death due to Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) and Classical Swine Fever (CSF) has been reported in the state in August. The official said that there had been no reports of swine deaths during August even as 3,168 pigs and piglets had died since March of which 2,574 were confirmed as death due to PRRS. The outbreak of PRRS was confirmed on March 17 while the prevalence of CSF was confirmed by experts on April 13, the official said. (PTI)

BSF seizes drugs worth Rs 39 lakh in Assam
Karimganj: The Border Security Force (BSF) Tuesday seized a huge consignment of drugs worth Rs 39 lakh from near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam’s Karimganj district, an official said. Based on specific input provided by BSF intelligence wing, the troops launched an operation near border village Chandsrikona and observed suspicious movement of two men moving towards the international border, said Ftr HQ BSF M&C Public Relations officer. The area was thoroughly searched and the BSF troops seized two bags from the site which contained huge quantity of party drugs (Yaba tablets) and Zarda worth Rs 39,14,400 in the international market, the PRO said. The BSF has seized more than four crore yaba tablets within a week, as part of anti-smuggling operation in the border area, he added. (PTI)

NSCN(K) cadre gives up arms to lead ‘normal family life’
Itanagar: A 19-year-old cadre of the Khaplang faction of the NSCN has surrendered before the district administration, police and the Assam Rifles in the troubled Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh. Wangliam Lowang, a permanent resident of Noglo village in Lazu administrative circle in Tirap, gave up arms Monday to lead a “normal family life with his parents”, a statement by District Information and Public Relation Officer (DIPRO) said. Lowang was 17, a student of a government school, when he joined the NSCN (K). He has been an active cadre of the outlawed outfit since 2016, the statement said. His father, Wangmi Lowang, who was also an NSCN (K) member, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Nampong area of Changlang district in 2015, it added. The formal ceremony was attended by Tirap Deputy Commissioner P N Thungon, Superintendent of Police JK Meena, among others. (PTI)

Arunachal guv for strengthening education infra
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra Tuesday stressed on the need to enhance the education sector of the state by strengthening the required infrastructure. During a meeting with state Education Minister Honchun Ngandam who called on him at Raj Bhawan, the governor asked him to streamline Mid-day meals in the state, an official statement said. The governor also expressed concern over non-posting of heads of premier institutes of the state such as the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) and the National Institute of Technology (NIT). To strengthen the education sector of the state, Mishra said, he had constituted a Study Committee which would be submitting their findings soon. (PTI)
