TURA: A well known trader of Tura town was assaulted and robbed of the day’s earnings near police parade ground on Tuesday night.
The 60 plus aged trader, Solil Kundu, who has been running a successful departmental store-Kundu store, at Ringrey market for decades, was walking back home towards Fancy Valley locality at around 8 pm when unidentified persons came from behind and hit him on the head with a blunt object leaving him profusely bleeding and unconscious. He managed to regain consciousness but by then the assailants had fled taking with them the trader’s bag containing over fifty thousand rupees meant for purchase of groceries for his store.
“The stretch of road along the parade ground passing through the BSNL quarters is always in complete darkness. I was trying to switch on the torch on my mobile when suddenly somebody came from behind and hit me on my head. All the money belonging to the store has been stolen,” narrated an injured Kundu.
Later, he managed to meet up with a fellow trader who rushed him to the hospital for medical treatment. A police FIR has since been lodged. Interestingly, a day after the attack the injured trader visited the BSNL office to apprise the officials about the need to put up some form of street lighting outside their premises but failed to get a positive response.
“The official told me it is not their responsibility to light up the area around their complex,” a dejected Kundu revealed.
