Nongpoh: Registering their discontentment over frequent intrusions by Assam Police in the border villages of Meghalaya, the Ri Bhoi Dorbar convened a meeting on Wednesday and resolved to seek the state government’s intervention into the matter.
Addressing mediapersons after the meeting, chief adviser of the Dorbar, DD Lapang, said the Dorbar resolved to ask the state government to focus on the inter-state border disputes and to find a lasting solution to the problems.
Among other issues, the meeting also resolved to give voice to the demand for upgradation of Patharkhmah Administrative Unit into a civil sub-division, holding of the Ri Bhoi National Dorbar, promoting the Ri Bhoi clean and green programme and strengthening the powers of the Raid and Himas.
“Before taking up these issues with the state government, we have decided to organise a general council meeting at Nongpoh in October to garner public support. “We need the full support of residents of Ri Bhoi”, Lapang added.
The meeting was also attended by former KHADC CEMs – R.R Kynsai Makdoh and C.B Syiem – besides members of various committees appointed by the traditional heads and headmen from various villages, Raid and Hima within the jurisdiction of the Ri Bhoi Dorbar.
