SHILLONG: With the Congress becoming weak in Meghalaya following the supremacy of NPP, the AICC will hold a meeting with state party leaders on Monday.
AICC general secretary in-charge Meghalaya Luizinho Faleiro said over phone that he would hold meetings with the party functionaries.
Faleiro, who assumed the charge of the state after a long break, said notices were served to the party functionaries regarding the meeting.
Despite emerging as the single largest party, the Congress could not form the government after the February 27 Assembly polls.
However, sources said what irked the AICC and a few state party leaders is that the Congress is not a vibrant opposition despite having enough MLAs to take on the NPP-led government in the Assembly and outside.
Neither CLP leader Mukul Sangma, who is out of power and the MPCC president Celestine Lyngdoh, who was defeated in the Assembly polls, has earned the trust of the MLAs and party leaders.
“There is a leadership crisis in MPCC and CLP which needs to be addressed by the AICC,” a state Congress leader said.
He added that an effective leadership is required when the party will face the district council and Lok Sabha polls.
The party leader said the leaders of CLP and MPCC have kept aloof from the state affairs and it was only the Congress spokespersons like Zenith Sangma and H M Shangpliang and the Opposition chief whip P T Sawkmie are raising issues concerning the state whenever they are approached.
