TURA: The demand for upgradation of Dalu C&RD Block in West Garo Hills into a Civil Sub-Division is gaining momentum with the Dalu Civil Sub-Division Joint Movement Committee (DCSJMC) submitting a memorandum on the demand to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday.
In their memorandum the committee pointed out that the Dalu C&RD Block which was created in October, 1954 is the oldest block in the entire state and deserves to be up-graded into a Civil Sub-Division.
The committee said that people were facing many problems while visiting district headquarters, Tura for any personal or official work due to its long distance.
“Citizens from Dalu including students, face a lot of hurdles while visiting Tura for important works like registration of birth/death certificates, caste certificates, correction of government documents and other official and departmental works as it takes many days or weeks to complete a task. When this happens, people are forced to shell out more money and also wastes valuable time in coming back for the same work which is a grave inconvenience to the people of the region,” the committee said while appealing to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to fulfil its demand.
According to the statistical data quoted by the committee, Dalu Block, which already completed 64 years, covers an area of 59700 square kilometres. There are 188 villages and 15 Gram Sevak Circles. The total number of households is 9660 and the literacy rate is 70.68 percent. There are a total number of 21 pre-primary schools, 217 lower primary schools, 66 middle schools, 15 high schools, five higher secondary schools and one Arts College.
