Productive day for Lions, Hawks, Bulls and Rhinos at MBL
SHILLONG: While Langsning Greenergy Lions won all five of their matches in the Meghalaya Baby League 2018 on Saturday, it proved to be a very good day for Mawlatbah SC Hawks, Wahlakhiat Bulls and Kickstart FCC Rhinos too, as these three teams came away with four victories in their pockets. Twenty matches were held on Saturday in MBL 2018, which is the joint initiative of Tata Trusts, the Meghalaya Football Association and All India Football Federation.Touchline NE Cubs and the Rhinos got the action underway yesterday here at the JN Sports Complex and it was the Cubs who won the opening game in the 4-5 year age category, but the Rhinos then won all the other four matches. It was slightly similar for ENE Falcons, who won the 6-7 age group 3-2 over the Bulls, but then lost all their other fixtures on the day as the Bulls proved to be just too strong.
Friends Utd and Umpling SC enter PFR Veteran Cup Semis
SHILLONG: Friends Utd and Umpling SC has qualify to the Semi Final of the PFR Veteran Cup after they have register win in the Quarter match which was held on Saturday at Malki Ground. In the first match of the Quarter Final Round played between Friends Uts and MLP Veteran, Friends Utd defeated MLP Veteran by 1-0 goal and the winning goal of Friends Utd was scored by Wellborn. In the other match of Quarter Final Round played between Umpling SC against Mawkyrwat Area Veteran, the match ended in a draw with 0-0. But it was through a tie-breaker Umpling SC beat Mawkyrwat Area Veteran by 5-4 goals. Through this win Friends Utd will face Umpling SC in the Semi Final on Septermber 13 at Malki Ground. Today Third Quarter Final Match Sunriser will play against Seng Rangbah Mawlai at 3:30 pm at Malki Ground.
Shillong College and Gladiators crowned Futsal tourney champs
SHILLONG: :Shillong College and Gladiators were crowned the champions of the maiden Laban SC Invitational Futsal Tournament 2018 here on Saturday after two entertaining title matches. In the first match, which was the final of the veterans’ division, Gladiators beat a team representing the Meghalaya Swimming Association (MSA) 6-5. The eventual champions took out a two-goal lead at the start, but MSA fought back hard and only narrowly lost the match. Following that came the final of the main competition, in which Shillong College came from behind to register a terrific victory over St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School 11-7.St Anthony’s pulled out a 4-1 lead at one point, but Shillong College rallied and later on in the game the score stood even at 6-6. The Anthonians would then go on to score their final goal, leading by 7-6 before the college kids stormed back and scored five goals to win the thrilling contest befitting of a final 11 goals to seven.
