GUWAHATI: Nine mail/ express and passenger trains had to be either detained or delayed by 20 to 80 minutes due to picketers obstructing tracks at various stations in Lumding and Tinsukia divisions of N F Railway (NFR).
Seven other trains had to be cancelled, two trains were short-terminated and four trains had to be diverted because of damage to tracks due to heavy rain on Sunday night in Alipurduar Division, according to the CPRO of N F Railway, P J Sharma informed.
Picketers had resorted to blockade of railway tracks at Silchar, between Kalkalighat and Baraigram, between Moranhat and Sibsagar Town, at Digboi, and between Nakachari and Mariani. However, these blockades were lifted later and train services resumed.
In another unrelated incident, incessant rain resulted in damage to railway embankment at km 92/3-4 and km 83/2-3 between Carron and Banarhat stations of Alipurduar division on Sunday night. As a result, the following trains had to be cancelled / short terminated: 55726 Dn / 55725 Up Alipurduar Siliguri Passenger were cancelled; 15768 Dn / 15757 Up Alipurduar – Siliguri Inter-city Express were cancelled; 15765 Up / 15766 Dn Ailiguri – Dhubri Intercity Express were cancelled; 55465 Alipurduar – Bamanhat Passenger was cancelled; 55467 Up / 55468 Dn Siliguri – Bamanhat express was short terminated at Alipurduar Jn.
The following trains were diverted : 15483 Dn Sikkim – Mahanadi Express was diverted to run via Alipurduar Jn – New Coochbehar – Raninagar Jalpaiguri with two-minute stoppage at New Coochbehar, Falakata, Dhupguri, New Maynaguri and Jalpaiguri Road ; 13149 Up Kanchan Kanya Express was diverted to run via New Jalpaiguri – Raninagar Jalpaiguri – New Coochbehar – Alipurduar Jn with 2-minute stoppages at Jalpaiguri Road, New maynaguri, Dhupguri, Falakata and New Coochbehar ; 12348 Up Capital Express was diverted to run via New Jalpaiguri – Raninagar Jalpaiguri – New Coochbehar – Samuktala Road with 2-minute stoppages at Jalpaiguri Road, New Maynaguri, Dhupguri, Falakata and New Coochbehar ; 15661 Up Ranchi Express was diverted to run via New Jalpaiguri – Raninagar Jalpaiguri – New Coochbehar – Samuktala Road with 2-minute stoppages at Jalpaiguri Road, New Maynaguri, Dhupguri, Falakata and New Coochbehar.
