MAWKYRWAT: The United Democratic Party (UDP) Mawkyrwat circle has decided to contest the upcoming district council election next year.
UDP Mawkyrwat president Anvil Lyngdoh said the decision was taken during the special executive committee meeting held on Saturday here.
“In the meeting, it was decided that a candidate will be nominated for the upcoming MDC election in 2019. However, before going to the field, we will have to meet the leadership of the high command to get clarification about the Regional Democratic Alliance,” Lyngdoh said.
The meeting also discussed about the upcoming Lok Sabha election, also next year. It decided to continue strengthening the party through its primary units and zones though the circle is awaiting instructions from the central body.
Lyngdoh said the UDP has a strong base of supporters in Mawkyrwat constituency in which the seat was usually shared between the UDP and the Congress, and only in 2018 the HSPDP regained the seat after more than 30 years and that also with the strong support of the UDP through the alliance.
