SHILLONG: UDP leader and former MLA Jemino Mawthoh is likely to be the ruling coalition’s common candidate from Shillong for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Sources in the party said the top leaders’ push to project Mawthoh “has been very positive”.
Though no meeting was held, it was learnt that the MDA partners are willing to extend support to Mawthoh, who “is an acceptable choice”, the sources added.
However, BJP’s plan is yet to be known as the party’s state leadership is not averse to fielding candidates for both Shillong and Tura.
The sources said meetings will have to be held with all the coalition partners to arrive at a consensus.
They added that NPP may agree to Mawthoh’s candidature provided its candidate in Tura gets the support of all the allies.
