SHILLONG: Meghalaya Home Minister, James Sangma said naming roads after tall personalities of the state was a great idea and founder of Khasi Unitarianism Babu Hajom Kissor Singh also featured in the list of such personalities.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the Anniversary of the Unitarian Church in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya and Karbi-Anglong of Assam in an inter-faith meeting at Unitarian Church Nongthymmai on Saturday.
“We are very seriously contemplating to name roads in our state. We have so many names we are proud of and Babu Hajom Kissor figures in that list,” he said.
“The government is privileged to take up this matter and give him the recognition, although he doesn’t need it, but as a small gesture from the government,” he added.
The Home Minister made the statement after Principal of St-Edmunds College, Sylvanus Lamare, drew the attention of the Minister on naming roads in the state after Kissor by the government.
He said roads in Laban and another road in Jowai where the Unitarian Church stands should be named after Kissor.
