SHILLONG: The BJP’s national spokesperson and in-charge Meghalaya, Nalin Kohli said that fielding a common candidate by the constituents of the ruling alliance in Meghalaya’s for the next Parliamentary elections had not been discussed yet.
Speaking to reporters after attending the party’s state executive meeting on Saturday, he said, “As prabhari (in-charge), nobody has approached me and I have had discussion with nobody on this issue.”
He added that every political party was entitled to prepare for any election and for every election whether there has to be common candidate or not.
“That is only when such discussions come up. We have seen in Ranikor also, the two constituents of MDA did contest against each other, so I cannot comment on it without any input,” he said.
Stating that the party has not had discussion on the Lok Sabha elections, he said that the party was focusing on assessing the performance in the past elections.
“People’s suggestions were there and also making a plan of activities we wish to do as a political party were the issues discussed in the meeting,” Kohli said.
Rumours were doing the round that UDP leader and former MLA Jemino Mawthoh is likely to be the ruling coalition’s common candidate from Shillong for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
