SHILLONG: The Home Department officials will visit Guwahati on Saturday to get necessary papers before the appointment of the new DGP.
An official source said on Friday the UPSC had sought more documents related to the applicants from Assam for the post of new Meghalaya DGP.
On July 31 after the retirement of SB Singh, the state government allowed the senior most police official, R Awasthi, DG, Civil Defence and Home Guards, to look after the office of the Director General of Police in addition to his current duties.
Awasthi will retire on September 30 and hence the state government has to speed up the appointment process, sources added.
Earlier, the state government had sent names of senior police officers of Assam-Meghalaya cadre to UPSC.
However, the UPSC had sought clarifications several times regarding the names, according to home department officials.
