GUWAHATI/ SHILLONG: Three senior Congress leaders from Meghalaya are among the seven from the region who have been appointed secretaries of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) ahead of the Lok Sabha election.
Congress leaders from Meghalaya Zenith Sangma, Charles Pyngrope and Ampareen Lyngdoh have been appointed secretaries of the AICC along with two senior party leaders from Assam, former state power minister Pradyut Bordoloi and former legislator Bhupen Bora.
Though the appointment of the leaders came a day after the resignation of veteran Congress leader DD Lapang who had accused the AICC of sidelining senior leaders, Meghalaya Congress spokesperson HM Shangpliang said the appointment was effected many days ago and it cannot be interpreted in the context of Lapang’s resignation. The party has also appointed Victor Keishing from Manipur and Pradyot Deb Barman from Tripura as the secretaries of the AICC in-charge Meghalaya and Sikkim, respectively.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi named the new secretaries from on Friday.
Among the newly appointed secretaries, Bordoloi is the in-charge of Nagaland and Bhupen Bora has been assigned to look after Tripura, an AICC statement said.
