SHILLONG: BJP national spokesperson and in-charge Meghalaya Nalin Kohli said the speculation of fielding a common candidate for the Lok Sabha election has not been discussed yet.
Speaking to reporters attending the state executive meeting on Saturday, he said, “As prabhari (in-charge), nobody has approached me and I have had discussion with nobody on this issue.”
He added that every political party is entitled to prepare for any election and for every election whether there has to be common candidate or not.
“That is only when such discussions come up. We have seen in Ranikor also, the two constituents of MDA did contest against each other, so I cannot comment on it without any input,” he said.
Kohli said the party is focusing on assessing the performance in the past elections.
“People’s suggestions were there and also making a plan of the activities we wish to do as a political party,” Kohli said.
Rumours were doing the round that UDP leader and former MLA Jemino Mawthoh is likely to be the ruling coalition’s common candidate from Shillong for the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
