Taxes on oil to fund development projects: Kohli

SHILLONG: BJP national spokesperson and in-charge Meghalaya Nalin Kohli on Saturday justified the hike in petrol and diesel prices by stating that the taxes collected will fund development projects.
“Whatever has been collected in terms of taxes on oil is going to building of roads, schemes for the poor and income tax benefits given to the middle class,” he told reporters.
Stating that the Centre is studying situation and pointed out that the sudden spike is on two counts — global factors which is not in India’s control
and the second is the rupee, which is part of the global movement of currency.
Kohli said, “We understand and are sensitive to the pain that increase in petroleum prices causes. At the same time, there is recognition that there has to be a holistic view on it. States and the Centre has to come to a holistic decision.”
