SHILLONG: A delegation of 12 organisations met the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), H S Shylla on Monday to call upon the need to have a close and healthy coordination of state government, KHADC and Hima Mylliem.

Addressing reporters on Monday, Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) president, Robert June Kharjahrin said, “We know that some of the areas (in Iew Them Mawlong) fall in government land, while some fall under District Council. There has to be understanding of the state government, District Council and Hima Mylliem not to delay their eviction.”

“How can the government evict the illegal settlers settling in areas of the Syiem, it should be the Syiem who should evict them instead. However, the Syiem also waits for the consultation of District Council. Hence, there has to be an understanding of the state government, District Council and Hima Mylliem,” he added.

He said the District Council should take proactive steps to tell the government to expedite the matter regarding issue of Iew Them Mawlong.

Relocation and eviction
The 12 organizations maintained that they would not allow the relocation of illegal settlers by the state government as relocation will arise only for those who are employees of Shillong Municipal Board.

“There should not be relocation, there should be eviction. How can illegal settlers be relocated? An illegal settler who is not an employee of Municipal Board should be evicted,” Kharjahrin said.

The representatives of following organisations met the chairman of the HLC on Tuesday : HYC, Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (HANM), East Jaiñtia National Council (EJNC), Confederation of Ri-Bhoi People (CoRP), Ri-Bhoi Students’ Union (RBSU), West Khasi Students’ Union (WKSU), Western Youth Federation (WYF), Synjuk ki Seng Samla Shnong (SSSS), Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF), Meghalaya People’s United Front (MPUF), All Jaiñtia Students Union (AJSU).
