SHILLONG: The High Level Committee (HLC) on the relocation of Harijan Colony settlers is treading cautiously and will hold a few more meetings before coming up with its report.
Urban Affairs Minister and member of the committee Hamlet Dohling said more meetings were needed because “there are new developments in every meeting”. He added that the committee did not want to rush.
The next meeting will be held after the autumn session of the Assembly.
“We want to be very careful since it’s a long pending and sensitive issue,” Dohling said and asked all pressure groups to bear with the government.
The HLC had recently asked the Shillong Municipal Board to conduct inventory in the colony and the inventorisation is complete. The report will be submitted to the committee in its next meeting.
The mandate of the committee is to examine relevant records and documents related to the relocation of the settlers of the colony and it will recommend feasible solutions for relocation.
