SHILLONG: The All Meghalaya 4th Teachers’ Association (AM4thTA), during a meeting with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Education Minister L Rymbui on September 13 brought forward the problems faced by the 4th teachers in the state due to low salary.
The association also reminded the CM that a memorandum regarding their issues was submitted on June 21.
AM4thTA vice presi-dent and All Garo Hills 4th Teachers’ Association (AGH4thTA) president Tengsrang K Sangma said: “We the 4th Teachers are facing lots of problem and difficulties to maintain our families as we are only getting Rs 12,000 per month. We need to send our children to school and pay Rs 6000 or Rs 7000 for admission fees every year. We also need to pay our D.El.Ed and buy books. We cannot do all this with just Rs 12,000.”
“There are 1521 4th Teachers’ in the state who are facing the same problems. Why is the state government paying us the lowest salary,” he added.
“Teachers in Assam receive good salaries compared to Meghalaya. Therefore, we urge to state government to enhance our salaries immediately for the greater interest of the teaching fraternity,” he said.
