Meghalaya does well in PMKSY implementation

SHILLONG: The State Government Programme Implementation & Monitoring Committee has expressed its happiness with the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) and Har Khet Ko Pani scheme in Meghalaya.

Chairman of the State Government Programme Implementation & Monitoring Committee , Saleng Sangma who reviewed the scheme here said that Soil Department had done a very good job even after getting 40 per cent of the total funds from the Central Government for the implementation of the scheme.

Government of India is committed to accord high priority to water conservation and its management and to this effect Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) has been formulated with the vision of extending the coverage of irrigation ‘Har Khet ko pani’ and improving water use efficiency ‘More crop per drop’ in a focused manner with end to end solution on source creation, distribution, management, field application and extension activities.

Saleng Sangma said that the government should see what kind of seeds were provided to the farmers even as he stressed on the need to yield at least two three crops under the scheme

“ We want to be self sufficient and if we can successfully implement the scheme, we should be self sufficient and we will not be required to bring produces from outside,” he said while adding that the sanctioned amount of 40 percent has been almost utilized.

He also said that Garo Hills region had huge potential as far as producing agricultural produces and Garo Hills region could also look after the entire state if all the projects wete implemented sincerely.

He also stressed on the need to have more training and awareness programs for the farmers.
