SHILLONG: The Achik Youth Council (AYC) on Wednesday appealed to the North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, S.C Sadhu, to take prompt action against illegal stone mining in the district.
As per the AYC members, Harding M Sangma of Rongbu has been operating an illegal stone quarries in Majipara, Mendima and Balapara areas of the district without environmental clearance or legal documents. The extracted stone is being transport to Assam without paying tax to the GHADC or the state government.
The miner is also using gelatine sticks without necessary permission, the AYC alleged, while pointing out that stone mining is banned in the state.
AYC has urged the DC to look into the matter.
